DS-15 MFR AR-15 Standard Rifle

The Dark Storm Industries DS-15 MFR (Modern Fighting Rifle) is a full-ambidextrous AR-15 rifle manufactured in Rockledge, Florida and available in 5.56 NATO and .300 Blackout. Built around DSI-developed receivers, controls, barrel, handguard, bolt carrier group, and operating components, the MFR combines a 16-inch MTOP-profile barrel, 15-inch free-float M-LOK handguard, two-stage trigger, ArmorLube-coated dual-ejector BCG, and full ambidextrous controls in one complete rifle.

The MFR is designed for shooters who want the handling and controls of a fully ambidextrous AR-15 without relying on aftermarket upgrades. Both the upper and lower receivers incorporate features developed specifically for the MFR platform, while the rifle's barrel, handguard, gas system, buffer system, and muzzle device are selected and configured as a complete operating system.

At the muzzle is the DSI W.T.F. Flash Hider, developed to reduce visible muzzle flash. Testing has shown a reduction in visible light signature of more than 20% compared with a standard A2 flash hider.

The 15-inch free-float M-LOK handguard provides mounting space along the rifle while retaining material where additional rigidity is beneficial. This reduces radial flex and creates a stable mounting platform for optics, lasers, lights, grips, and other accessories. The handguard is secured with a robust barrel nut that also functions as a heat sink, increasing heat transfer from the chamber area of the barrel.

The MFR handguard also incorporates DSI's Chainlink handguard-to-upper tether to help prevent lateral or forward movement. Two removable stainless steel dowels provide additional indexing and retention between the handguard and upper receiver.

Under the handguard is DSI's 16-inch MTOP-profile barrel, machined from Mil-Spec 4150 CMV steel and treated with a black nitride finish for durability and corrosion resistance. The 5.56 NATO barrel is chambered to CIP headspace specifications and uses a 1:7 twist with a mid-length gas system. The .300 Blackout configuration uses a 1:8 twist barrel with a pistol-length gas system and is tuned to cycle subsonic ammunition while suppressed.

The forged 7075 MFR upper receiver features a serviceable steel pin for the ambidextrous charging handle to latch onto, a countersunk E-clip for additional retention, and an additional rear Picatinny rail slot to provide more mounting room for backup sights when using optics with shorter eye relief.

The low-shelf forged 7075 MFR lower receiver provides ambidextrous controls for both right- and left-handed shooters. The ambidextrous bolt catch can lock back and release the bolt carrier group from either side of the rifle, while the ambidextrous magazine release allows magazine changes from either side. The investment-cast flat-blade two-stage trigger has a 3.5 lb. total pull with a short reset.

The DSI Mil+ bolt carrier group uses a dual-ejector 9310AQ bolt and an M16-style 8620AQ carrier finished with ArmorLube nitride/DLC coating. Developed through U.S. Army research and development, the coating is designed to reduce friction and wear compared with traditional lubricated manganese-phosphate and hard-chrome finishes.

The Magpul DT stock is adjustable through six positions on DSI's Mil-Spec buffer tube, which incorporates SOCOM drain holes and triple rear vent holes to assist with the expulsion of gas and water. The stock is paired with a Magpul K2 high-angle grip.

The upper receiver, lower receiver, and handguard receive a Type III undyed hardcoat anodized base finish beneath Cerakote Gen 2 IR signature-reduction coating, reducing the rifle's infrared signature when viewed under night vision with IR illumination.

The complete DS-15 MFR combines full ambidextrous controls, a rigid free-float M-LOK handguard, a 16-inch MTOP-profile barrel, dual-ejector bolt carrier group, enhanced buffer system, and DSI-developed components in a rifle manufactured and assembled in the United States.
