DS-15 Typhoon Short Barrel Rifle
The Dark Storm Industries DS-15 Typhoon Short Barrel Rifle combines the compact handling and modularity of the Typhoon platform with multiple short-barrel configurations in 5.56 NATO and .300 Blackout. Built on a precision-matched billet receiver set and manufactured at our Rockledge, Florida facility, the Typhoon SBR incorporates DSI-developed components, premium American-made materials, and a free-float M-LOK handguard in a compact rifle platform.
The DS-15 Typhoon Short Barrel Rifle is available in 10.5-inch, 12.5-inch, and 14.5-inch 5.56 NATO configurations, along with a 12.5-inch .300 Blackout configuration. Available finishes include Black, Flat Dark Earth, Copperhead Brown, and Olive Drab Green.
Starting at the muzzle, the Typhoon features our Firestorm compensator to help reduce muzzle rise and felt recoil. The free-float M-LOK handguard provides a rigid mounting platform for optics, lights, lasers, and other accessories while maintaining the clean, lightweight profile of the Typhoon series.
Typhoon SBR barrels are machined from premium 4150 CMV steel certified to MIL-B-11595E and receive a black nitride heat-treatment finish for durability and corrosion resistance. The 5.56 NATO configurations use a 1:7 twist, while the 12.5-inch .300 Blackout configuration uses a 1:8 twist. Gas-system length is matched to the selected barrel and caliber configuration.
The precision-matched billet receiver set is machined from U.S.-produced 7075 T651 aluminum and features partial ambidextrous controls, including the DSI ATACH™ ambidextrous charging handle and DSI billet ambidextrous safety selector.
The DSI Mil+ Bolt Carrier Group incorporates an 8620 bolt carrier with a diamond-honed bore, 9310 enhanced-profile bolt, properly staked 4130 gas key, hard-chrome wear surfaces, and a Sprinco XP 5-coil extractor spring. Components are carburized and finished to DSI's Mil+ specifications for durability and long service life.
The DSI Mil+ carbine buffer system includes a neoprene-dampened buffer, electropolished 17-7 stainless steel buffer spring, and impact-extruded 7075 six-position buffer tube with drain and vent holes. Mil-Spec dry-film lubricant is applied to the buffer tube bore, and the QD socket end plate and castle nut are dual staked for secure retention.
The result is a compact DS-15 Short Barrel Rifle combining the proven Typhoon platform with multiple barrel-length and caliber options, premium materials, enhanced components, and the modularity expected from the DS-15 platform.

Short Barrel Rifle Transfer Information
As of October 9, 2026, ATF has announced that it will not enforce federal NFA requirements for prior approval, registration, or tax stamps for short-barreled rifles covered by its current guidance. Federal Gun Control Act requirements remain in effect, including applicable dealer transfer, Form 4473, background-check, and recordkeeping requirements.
Customers may choose to have their DS-15 Typhoon Short Barrel Rifle transferred under ATF's current federal guidance or request voluntary NFA registration and transfer through the traditional NFA process. Current federal procedures remain subject to change as ATF implements its revised transfer process.
State and local laws governing Short Barrel Rifles vary and are not superseded by ATF's federal enforcement policy. Certain jurisdictions may prohibit Short Barrel Rifles or require federal registration as a condition of lawful possession.
Customers and transferring dealers are responsible for confirming that the selected configuration and transfer method are lawful in their jurisdiction before purchase or transfer.
