DS-25 Typhoon Short Barrel Rifle 12.5″ — .308 Winchester

The Dark Storm Industries DS-25 Typhoon Short Barrel Rifle brings .308 Winchester performance to DSI's compact, small-frame, large-caliber platform. Built around a precision-matched billet receiver set and a 12.5-inch SOCOM-profile barrel, the DS-25 Typhoon SBR delivers the handling characteristics of an AR-15-sized platform while retaining the capability of the .308 Winchester cartridge.

Manufactured and assembled at our Rockledge, Florida facility, the DS-25 Typhoon combines premium American-made materials, DSI-developed components, partial ambidextrous controls, and a free-float M-LOK handguard in a compact factory Short Barrel Rifle configuration.

The extended 10-inch M-LOK handguard provides a rigid mounting platform for optics, lights, lasers, and other accessories while maintaining a compact overall profile. A Firestorm compensator helps reduce muzzle rise and felt recoil, while the Hogue overmolded pistol grip provides secure control in demanding conditions.

The 12.5-inch SOCOM-profile barrel is machined from 4140 CMV steel and features a black nitride heat-treatment finish for durability and corrosion resistance. Chambered in .308 Winchester, it is button-rifled with a 1:10 twist and uses a mid-length direct-impingement gas system.

The precision-matched billet receiver set is machined from U.S.-produced 7075 T651 aluminum and incorporates partial ambidextrous controls, including the DSI ATACH™ ambidextrous charging handle and DSI billet ambidextrous safety selector.

The DS-25 Bolt Carrier Group incorporates an 8620 bolt carrier, 9310 enhanced-profile dual-ejector bolt with .308 bolt face, properly staked 4130 gas key, chrome-plated firing pin, and Sprinco XP extractor spring for reliable operation under demanding use.

The DSI Mil+ carbine buffer system includes a neoprene-dampened buffer, electropolished 17-7 stainless steel buffer spring, 7075 six-position buffer tube with drain and vent holes, Mil-Spec dry-film lubricant, and a dual-staked QD end plate and castle nut.

The result is a compact .308 Short Barrel Rifle combining the size and handling characteristics of the DS-25 platform with the increased energy and range of .308 Winchester.

Short Barrel Rifle Transfer Information

As of October 9, 2026, ATF has announced that it will not enforce federal NFA requirements for prior approval, registration, or tax stamps for short-barreled rifles covered by its current guidance. Federal Gun Control Act requirements remain in effect, including applicable dealer transfer, Form 4473, background-check, and recordkeeping requirements.

Customers may choose to have their DS-25 Typhoon Short Barrel Rifle transferred under ATF's current federal guidance or request voluntary NFA registration and transfer through the traditional NFA process. Current federal procedures remain subject to change as ATF implements its revised transfer process.

State and local laws governing Short Barrel Rifles vary and are not superseded by ATF's federal enforcement policy. Certain jurisdictions may prohibit Short Barrel Rifles or require federal registration as a condition of lawful possession.

Customers and transferring dealers are responsible for confirming that the selected configuration and transfer method are lawful in their jurisdiction before purchase or transfer.
